She Who Dares

Featuring the works of Fern Danielle Tomlinson

Yield Gallery

A celebration of feminine power, She Who Dares showcases the works of two rising artists, Fern and Danielle Tomlinson. Whilst their works differ in subject - witty, film-noir exclamations in the same gallery as vibrant splashy animal portraits - their intention aligns beautifully. Passion is at the core of both artists' works, whether it be a subversion of the male gaze to create female empowerment, or a love letter to the animal kingdom to create awareness of conservation, 'She Who Dares' opens the door for both existing and future artists identifying as female.

View our recent auction result from our live June sale, where Fern surpassed the estimate with her piece 'Sweet Temptation', 2025. It was estimated at £3000 - £5000, but sold for an amazing £20,000 (inc. premium).

Fern's book cover-style works have been compared to that of Harland Miller's and James McQueen's, with her witty slogans drawing comparisons to the Connor Brothers. However, what sets her work apart is the effective subversion of the male gaze - Fern creates strong female characters who are unapologetic in what they say. "It's Not Me, It's You" one painting declares derisively. "If My Mouth Doesn't Say It, My Face Definitely Will" screams another defiance. Using both bright Instagram-filter colours and moody film-noir monochrome, Fern takes the aesthetic of the 1950s and smothers it in a flash-flood of fourth-wave feminism.

A portion of proceeds from this exhibition are being donated to Danielle's charity of choice, The Big Cat Sanctuary, showing the artist's passion for helping animals.

Danielle Tomlinson's animal paintings are almost as ferocious as her subjects. Splashy colours that aren't typical of the animal, but nonetheless fit perfectly, create vibrant creatures ranging from foxes to lions to a Highland cow proudly displayed by the window. Previously an elite swimmer representing Great Britain, the lockdown of 2020 opened up new opportunities for Tomlinson after years of painting privately, earning her much well-deserved recognition for her wildlife paintings that go against traditional styles.

This exhibition at Yield Gallery marks her debut gallery appearance.

She Who Dares is open until 10th September.
